Own Correspondent, Dhaka, January 5: The deadline for keeping shops and shopping malls open will be reduced to deal with the new type of deadly coronavirus 'Omicron'. According to the new directive, shops will be open till 8 pm instead of 10 pm. Health Minister Zahid Malek made the remarks while talking to reporters at the Secretariat on Tuesday (January 4).

The minister said that the school will remain open in compliance with the health rules, adding that if the infection increases, the closure of schools will be considered. Then school can no longer be continued. We have not made that decision yet, that situation is not yet prevailing in the country.

The health minister said that many people are asking whether the lockdown will be given or not, the neighboring country (India) has given it. We're not thinking about that yet. If the condition goes out of control, the infection increases a lot, then the thought of lockdown is in the head. Besides, screening has been intensified at land, sea and seaports. Police guards will be deployed in case of quarantine. It has been asked to pay attention to this.

He said that these issues were discussed after 15 days. He said that those who are in charge at the district level, including our DCs and SPs, have been told to implement the instructions as soon as possible. He said that 15 days had been mentioned earlier. I have proposed to do seven days, not 15 days. The cabinet secretary has been told. He has agreed on this.

Zahid Malek said, we want to keep the country safe. Let the country's economy be good. Let life go on normally. That is why we all have to try. Neither the government nor the health ministry alone can do it. People at risk and the elderly should be careful. Omicron infects at two to three times higher rates.
