Sitakunda fire: Legal action will be taken if anyone's negligence is found, says Home Minister

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, June 7: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that if anyone's negligence is found in the incident of fire and explosion in the BM container depot area of Sonaichhari in Chittagong's Sitakunda, the person will be brought to justice subject to investigation.

The Home Minister said this while speaking to reporters at Chittagong Medical College Hospital on Monday after visiting the injured in the Sitakunda container depot fire.

Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, "No accused will be spared. Someone who has committed a crime will be tried according to the law. What happened here will be brought to justice and investigated. No one will be spared if there is negligence or liability. No matter how powerful the person is, no one is above the law."

Earlier on Monday afternoon, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal visited the BM container depot. He spoke to the Army and Fire Service officials who were battling the blaze at the depot.

The Home Minister was accompanied by Sitakunda MP Didarul Alam, Chittagong Range DIG Anwar Hossain, Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner Saleh Mohammad Tanvir, Chittagong District Superintendent of Police SM Rashidul Haque, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Shahadat Hossain and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ashraful Alam, and Army, police and fire service officials.
