Dhaka, May 8: Awami League General Secretary and Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader said the project has been taken up to make the site of speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on March 7 and the surrender of the Pakistani aggressors tourists spot. These places and their history have been disputed in the past. The government has taken initiative to present them properly to the new generation.

Obaidul Quader said this at a briefing from his official residence in the capital on Saturday (May 8). Mentioning that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the first to plant a tree on the racecourse ground, Obaidul Quader said, "It was Bangabandhu who created it as a garden."

He added that Ziaur Rahman had illegally set up a children's park across most of the area to erase the memory of the March 7 speech and the surrender of the Pakistani aggressors by illegally becoming president.

He also asked why environmentalists did not question then.

The Awami League general secretary said, "We did not hear a word from anyone that day. In the name of beautification, how many beautiful trees were cut down from the side of the road in this Dhaka city. The beauty of this city was destroyed."

Calling on the people not to worry about this, the bridge minister said the government is aware of this and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is moving forward with practical initiatives.

Earlier, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader joined the officials of Dhaka Road Zone, BRTC and BRTA in a virtual exchange meeting.

At the time, the minister called for taking steps to alleviate the suffering of the people by coordinating the issue of traffic management at the entrances of Dhaka ahead of Eid.

"The indifference to hygiene has been noticed in the shopping mall markets. The same can be said in the shopping mall markets. Survival can be a lot of fun in the future, so at least this time we all accept the sacrifice," he said.

At the call of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the General Secretary of the Awami League urged everyone to celebrate Eid from their respective positions. "Let's all work together to prevent this deadly corona," he said.
