Dhaka, July 28: Eight people, including six Rohingyas, were killed in separate landslides and floods in the Rohingya camps at Ukhia, Maheshkhali and Teknaf in Cox's Bazar. Among those killed in the landslide are two from one family and three from another. Most of the dead were women and children. The landslides occurred at different times on Tuesday (July 27) dawn and morning.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Mamunur Rashid said five people were killed in a landslide at Camp-10 in Ukhia. Two others were injured.

The landslide took place at Balukhali camp around 10 am on Tuesday. At the same time, a Rohingya child drowned after taking a bath in the floodwaters. Additional Commissioner of Cox's Bazar Refugee Relief and Repatriation Samsuddoza Nayan confirmed the information.

The deceased were identified as Dil Bahar (42), wife of Shah Alam of Rohingya Camp-10, Block G / 38; Their son Shafiul Alam (9); Dil Bahar (25), wife of Md. Yusuf of the same camp; Their son Abdur Rahman (3); And daughter Ayesha Siddique (1).

The injured were identified as Nur Fatema, 14, daughter of Shah Alam and Jan-e Alam, 8.

A child named Bahar died in Camp-8 after being swept away by the flood waters. Those concerned could not give the detailed identity of the deceased.

Cox's Bazar Refugee Relief and Repatriation Office Additional Commissioner Shamsuddoza Nayan said intermittent heavy rains had been falling in Cox's Bazar since noon on Monday (July 26). Following this, a landslide occurred in Rohingya Camp-10's Block-G / 37 around 10 am on Tuesday. Two people including mother and son of the same family were killed and three people including mother and son and daughter of the other family were killed. Two more members of the first family were injured.

APBN Commander (SP) Sihab Kaiser Khan, who was working in the camp, said that after receiving the news, the 8 ABPN members in charge of Camp No. 10 went to the spot and carried out rescue work. They were joined by other rescue teams. After their rescue, the dead and injured were identified in collaboration with the CIC of Camp-10.

Meanwhile, a teenager was killed in a separate hill collapse in Maheshkhali. He died in his sleep. The incident took place in Chhota Maheshkhali North Sipahirpara area on Tuesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Morsheda Akhter, 14. She is the daughter of local Anshar Hossain.
