Six Russian nationals die in Rooppur in last 11 days

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, February 7: Another Russian national working in the Rooppur nuclear project in Pabna's Ishwardi died on Sunday. He has been identified as Vorotnikov Alexandra (55). He was working with Nikim, a contractor firm for the project.

On the same day, another Russian citizen, Bharatnikov Alexander, 45, died. In the last 11 days, six Russian nationals have died in Rooppur.

Vorotnikov Alexandra's body was recovered from his room in the project's residential Green City on Sunday afternoon. His colleagues informed the project's administrative officials after seeing him lying unconscious in his room. Upon receiving the news, the administrative officer and the police went and recovered the body. Later on Sunday afternoon, police recovered the body of Bharatnikov Alexander from a room in the Green City.

According to police, the Russian national with the foreign passport lived in a room in a residential building in Green City. As he was not on duty, a foreigner lives in the next room came to look for him and found Alexander lying unconscious on a bed on the sixth floor of Green City's building no 15. He quickly informed the people involved in the Green City project. After receiving the news, the police recovered his body in the afternoon.

Ishwardi police said six bodies have been recovered in Rooppur in the last 11 days. The autopsy report did not find anything suspicious. Only one person was found to have drug involvement. Cardiac arrest was mentioned in others' reports.

On January 28, Barchenko Alexei, 48, died while undergoing treatment at Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, and on February 2, Shakirov Alexei, 40, died in his sleep. Chukin Pavel, 48, a mechanical engineer with a Russian subcontractor named Trust Rosem, died on Saturday.

At around 2 am on the same day, Talmasef Vyaselv (59), the installer of another sub-contractor named SMU-1 of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project, fell down the stairs from the 14th floor, and died on the spot.
