Murder Son gunned down by robbers in front of father
Dhaka, October 8: A group of armed robbers shot dead a student in front of his father at Himchhari Dhala on the Eidgaon-Eidgarh-Baishari road in Cox's Bazar on Saturday, police said. The incident happened on Thursday (October 8) morning while the victim was returning home after singing at a social event.
The deceased was identified as Johnny De Raj, 20, son of Tapan De of Charpara (Shiapara) in Ward 4 of Eidgarh Union, a hilly area of Ramu upazila.
Johnny was this year's HSC candidate from Eidgaon College. Besides studying, he used to sing in various social events.
Eidgarh 4th Ward UP member Md. Alamgir Hossain said that on the way from Eidgaon to Eidgarh, the CNG-carrying passengers were caught by the robbers at Himchhari Dhala.
Vocalist Johnny was shot dead by robbers at the time.
The other passengers were also injured by the bandits.
He also said that people from several unions of the three upazilas of Naikshangchhari, Ramu and Cox's Bazar Sadar have to use the road.
Citing Tapan, the father of the deceased, Eidgarh social worker Nurul Abshar said Johnny Raj went to perform at a social event on Wednesday night.
After the program, the father and son and others were returning home on Thursday morning.
As soon as they reached Himchhari Dhala on the Eidgaon-Eidgarh road, a group of 10-15 armed robbers stopped them.
They tried to kidnap Johnny, but was met with resistence from the youth.
When the resistence turned into a scuffle, Johnny was shot in the right side of the head before the robbers fled the spot.
Johnny was rescued and taken to a clinic called Eidgaon Medical, where doctors declared him dead.
Mostafa Kamal, a village doctor in the West Bhomariaghona area near the scene, said Johnny Raj, who was shot, was bleeding all the way to the hospital.
His father, who was with her at the time, fainted in the car.
Knowing that his son had died, he repeatedly lost consciousness in the hospital.
