Dhaka, Feb 20: Mill owners have announced to reduce the price of soybean oil by Tk 10 per liter after getting duty exemption.

As a result, the price of one liter bottle will be reduced by Tk 10 to Tk 163, and open soybean oil will be sold at Tk 149 after the price reduction.

State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu made this announcement after the meeting of the task force and national committee on commodity price situation in the Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday (February 20).

However, the state minister said that the price of palm oil is not being reduced for now.

He said, "NBR has reduced the duty of edible oil by Tk 5, but the mill owners or refiners have announced to reduce it to Tk 10 per litre. The new rates will be effective from March 1.”

Stating that opportunities are being created to import onions from India, the state minister said, "Now it has been spoken verbally. I will disclose it to you when the official decision comes from India.”

The state minister said that the process of facilitating the border trade of consumer goods is going on with Myanmar as well as India.

He said, "A draft MoU with Myanmar on daily commodities has come to us. Hope it will be finalized soon. We can easily bring rice, pulses, onions and ginger from Myanmar."
