Special session of Parliament ends

Dhaka, November 20: The tenth session of the Eleventh National Assembly has come to an end on the occasion of Mujib Year. The session ended on Thursday night with the reading of President Md. Abdul Hamid's announcement.

The session lasted for a total of 10 working days from November 8 to Thursday. Out of these 10 working days, the activities of five special working sessions were conducted from 9 to 15 November.

On the second working day of this special session, President Md. Abdul Hamid delivered a valuable speech. Discussions were held on the proposal (general) under Rule 147 of the Rules of Procedure raised by the Prime Minister and Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina on November 9. At the end of the discussion, the proposal was adopted unanimously. The Speaker expressed her sincere gratitude to the Prime Minister for raising this proposal.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Leader of the Opposition Raushan Ershad and 79 members of the government and opposition took part in the 19-hour and three-minute discussion. In these discussions the political and economic philosophy of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been highlighted.

In the special session, the speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, delivered on the day of repatriation on 10 January, the speech given in the Constituent Assembly on 4 November 1972 and the speech given in the National Assembly of Bangladesh on 25 January 1975 were played.

Ahead of the President's announcement, Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said this special session of the National Assembly on the occasion of Mujib Year would be a great milestone in the parliamentary history of Bangladesh and the country. She said she was impressed by the tolerant behavior and constructive discussions of the members of parliament in other parliamentary activities including the legislative process in this session.

The Speaker hoped that under the able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh would become a middle income country by 2021 and a developed and prosperous country by 2041.
