Woman DC Sravasti Roy becomes first woman DC from small ethnic group
Dhaka, May 20: The government on Thursday (May 19) appointed new deputy commissioners (DCs) in four districts. Cox's Bazar District Council Chief Executive Officer (Deputy Secretary) Srabasti Roy has been appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of Jamalpur.
Sravasti Roy is the first woman DC from a small ethnic group. She belongs to the Chakma community. Her birthplace is in Rangamati. Earlier, the Ministry of Public Administration said that more than one male officer from a small ethnic group has been appointed as DC.
Sravasti Roy is an officer of BCS 24th batch administration cadre. She has been serving as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cox's Bazar District Council since February 17.
In a response on Thursday evening, Sravasti Roy said that transfer was a routine matter of the administration. I am grateful to the Hon'ble Prime Minister for appointing me as the first woman Deputy Commissioner in the hills. I would like to express my gratitude to all those who have been given the opportunity to work in the selection boards, including the Ministry of Public Administration and the Cabinet Division, in considering the Prime Minister's directive to give women the opportunity to work in various important positions.
Regarding the new responsibilities, he said the government has policy-making issues and guidelines. We observe them. However, if we have the opportunity to work separately, we will do it. I will do this if I have the opportunity to work with people from disadvantaged groups, such as people with disabilities or special needs, and people who are marginalized.
