Dhaka, August 30: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq said that before finalizing the draft of the 'Cyber Security Act, 2023', the views of stakeholders will be taken. He said this to reporters in his office at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

The Law Minister said that Parliament was convened on September 3. The final approval of the Cabinet was taken on Monday for the Act to go to Parliament. The Parliamentary Standing Committee must call the stakeholders and discuss. That will be, you will know from me. The matter of discussion will be discussed.

The Cabinet on Monday gave final approval to the draft of the Cyber Security Act, 2023. Earlier, the government took the initiative to rename the Digital Security Act, 2018 as 'Cyber Security Act, 2023'. For this reason, the cabinet approved the draft cyber security law on August 7.

Meanwhile, Law Minister Anisul Huq informed the journalists that many sections which were non-bailable earlier have been made bailable under the Cyber Security Act. In some cases the punishment has also been reduced.

The law minister also said that many sections of the Digital Security Act, such as the defamation section, were previously punishable by imprisonment. A fine has now been substituted for that imprisonment. That is, the only penalty for defamation is fine. Now if the fine is not paid, then there will be imprisonment. That too will be three or six months imprisonment depending on the fine. But the main punishment is fine. Earlier the maximum penalty was Tk 5 lakh, now it has been increased to Tk 25 lakh.
