Dhaka, February 12: Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque has said that there is documentary evidence that Ziaur Rahman was involved in the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members.

Regarding Ziaur Rahman's decision to withdraw his state title, he said, "It cannot happen that there will be no minimum trial for the killers and accomplices of the father of the nation. Those who are the killers of Bangabandhu will be deprived of all state facilities."

"Burma's Suu Kyi was awarded the International Peace Prize, but it has been withdrawn," he said. "Various universities offered doctoral degrees, all withdrew, because she mistreated the Rohingyas."

"As he (Ziaur Rahman) fought the War of Liberation, he must be credited as a freedom fighter. He had a heroic role that day, that's why he got the title. However, we have documentary evidence of involvement in the assassination of Bangabandhu, so we have identified him as the killer of Bangabandhu. So his state honor, which the state has given him, will be withdrawn."

The minister was responding to a question from reporters at a function organized by Tax Zone-Gazipur at the Bangataj Auditorium in Gazipur on Thursday (February 11).

The minister said, "The BNP said the court did not mention anything about Ziaur Rahman. I would like to say to them that there is no case against a dead person under the customary law of all the countries of the world, including our country. The court does not give a verdict against the deceased. It’s not just in this case, it’s everywhere. That is why the court may not have commented on the extent of his involvement in the assassination of Bangabandhu. That doesn't mean he wasn't involved or we're just trying to involve him."

"We have the record and documentary evidence of what the killers said about Ziaur Rahman in various interviews during their lifetime and where they said it. We will present it in due course."

The Liberation War Affairs Minister claimed that this was not an aggressive decision against him (Ziaur Rahman).

Incidentally, at the 72nd meeting of Jamuka on Tuesday (February 9), it was decided to cancel the 'Bir Uttam' title given to Ziaur Rahman.

At the same time, it has been recommended to cancel the state titles of Bangabandhu's self-confessed murderers Shariful Haque Dalim, Nur Chowdhury, Rashed Chowdhury and Mosleh Uddin.

The decision to cancel it will take effect after the gazette is published. Besides, Ziaur Rahman received the Independence Medal in 2003. Later in 2016 it was canceled.
