Dhaka, October 15: Sultan of Brunei Haji Hassanal Bolkiah ibni Omar Ali Saifuddien III arrived in Dhaka on Saturday on a three-day state visit. He was accorded a red carpet reception at the airport.

A special VVIP aircraft (Royal Brunei) carrying the Sultan and his entourage landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 2:24 pm (Bangladesh time).

President Md Abdul Hamid, accompanied by senior cabinet members and senior civil and military officials, welcomed the Sultan of Brunei at the airport.

Members of the royal family of Brunei, ministers of various government ministries and high-level officials have arrived in Dhaka as the Sultan's entourage. President Hamid welcomed the Sultan of Brunei at the airport with a bouquet of flowers following the hygiene rules due to the ongoing pandemic corona situation.

The members of the visiting delegation also followed hygiene rules including wearing masks and maintaining social distance during the reception. As part of the reception ceremony, the Sultan was given a guard of honor at the airport by a smart team of Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force with 21 gunfire.

The Sultan of Brunei visited Dhaka for the first time on the invitation of President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Both President Hamid and the Sultan paid state honors by standing on temporary salute platforms while the national anthems of their respective countries were played.

State guests visited the parade and later both introduced the representatives of their respective countries to each other. After the reception at the airport, the Sultan visited the National Martyrs' Memorial at Savar on the outskirts of the capital. Sultan laid a wreath in memory of the martyrs of Bangladesh's bloody nine-month independence war in 1971 at Savar National Memorial. There he planted a sapling and signed the visitor's book.

The Sultan of Brunei will hold separate meetings with the President and Prime Minister.
