Sunamganj: Three children killed, eight injured in road accident

Dhaka, November 22: Three children were killed and eight others injured in a microbus accident on the Dabur-Jagannathpur road in Sunamganj's Shantiganj upazila. They were all going to returning home after attending a wedding ceremony.

According to reports, the incident took place on Sunday (November 21) at around 8:30 pm.

The deceased have already been identified.

They are Khokon Das (2), son of Putul Das of Kalkalia Union of Jagannathpur Upazila; Niloy Das (9), son of Sameeran Das; and Pranab Chanda (8), son of Lipu Chanda.

According to police and local sources, the victims had come from Mollargaon village in Kalkalia union of Jagannathpur upazila to take part in a wedding ceremony at Shatrumardan village in Pagla union of Shantiganj. Following the wedding, they were returning home in a microbus.

At around 8:30 pm, a speeding Noah microbus hit the back of a truck parked on the road at Dabur Point on the Sunamganj-Sylhet road. The microbus sustained heavy damage.

At that time 11 passengers in the microbus were seriously injured. The rescued children Khokon, Niloy and Pranab were rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where doctors declared them dead.

Officer-in-charge of Shantiganj Police Station Kazi Muktadir Hossain confirmed the incident.

According to the Bangla Tribune, Assistant Superintendent of Police Shubhashish Dhar visited the spot after receiving immediate information.
