Sundarbans fire: Blaze under control after 27 hours

Dhaka, May 4: The fire came under control 27 hours after it broke out in Daser Varani area of Sharankhola Range in the Sundarbans East Forest Department. The fire was brought under control on Tuesday (May 4) at around 2pm due to the efforts of the fire service, forest department, CPG members, locals and rain.

However, it will take a few more hours to put out the fire completely, forest officials said. Earlier, a fire broke out in Daser Varani area of ​​Sharankhola Range in Bagerhat of Sundarbans East Forest Division around 11am on Monday.

The forest department has formed a three-member investigation committee on Monday evening to find out the cause of the fire. The inquiry committee has been asked to submit a report within the next seven days.

Md. Golam Sarwar, Deputy Assistant Director of Bagerhat Fire Service and Civil Defense Station, said, "We started extinguishing the fire with water around 10:30 am. The fire is now under control. We will continue to water until the fire is completely extinguished."

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the Sundarbans East Forest Department Mohammad Belayet Hossain said the fire was now under control. We have formed a committee to investigate the fire.
