Dhaka, October 29: Amanat Shah, the ferry that overturned in the accident at Manatganj's Shibalaya Upazila Paturia Ghat, has not yet been rescued. Immediately after the incident, the rescue ship Pratyay set sail from Chandpur towards Paturia to rescue the ferry. Meanwhile, Hamza has started the operation for the third day to rescue the vehicles stuck inside the sunken ferry Amanat Shah on Friday morning.

Amanat Shah sank with 17 trucks at Paturia No. 5 in Manikganj on Wednesday morning. Amanat Shah loaded vehicles from Daulatdia Ghat in Goalanda of Rajbari and anchored at Ferry Ghat No. 5 in Paturia. The ferry sank shortly after two to three vehicles landed.

Immediately after the ferry capsized, the rescue ship Hamza came to the spot and started rescuing the vehicles. However, the rescue ship with capacity of 60 tons was unable to rescue the ferry weiging 480 tons. So the authorities are waiting for the rescue ship to rescue Amanat Shah who is half drowned in Paturia.

Prayyay can cross three to four kilometers of waterways per hour against the current. The distance from Paturia Ghat to Chandpur is about 200 km. According to that calculation, the authorities could not comment on when the rescue ship would reach Paturia wharf.

At around 9:30 am on Friday (October 29), SM Chanowar Hossain, joint director of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority and commander of the rescue ship Hamza, said the ship was struggling to cope with the current due to strong currents in the river.

On the other hand, Hamza has already rescued 9 trucks and a motorcycle from the sunken trucks at Paturia Ghat. The remaining five trucks could be recovered by Friday evening.
