Dhaka, 4 June 2023: Sylhet city is now busy with election campaigns and miking.

Sylhet City Corporation (CCIC) election symbols were allocated between the mayor and councilor candidates on Friday. After receiving the symbols, the candidate-supporters started official campaigning from Saturday (June 3). Banners and festoons are being strung across the city. Mikeing is going on. The entire city of Sylhet has become active in processions.

As a candidate for the position of mayor, Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, Jatiya Party candidate industrialist Nazrul Islam Babul (plough), Islamic Movement mayoral candidate Mahmudul Hasan (hand fan), Zaker Party's Zahirul Alam (rose flower), independent mayoral candidate Mohammad Abdul Hanif (horse), Md. Shah Jahan Mia (bus car) and Md. Chalah Uddin Rimon (cricket bat) carried out day-long mass communication and campaigning for the symbol on Saturday.

Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, the nominated mayoral candidate of Awami League, has started his official campaign by visiting the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (r.) and Shahparan (r.) in Sylhet.

Jatiya Party nominated mayoral candidate and convener of Sylhet Metropolitan Jatiya Party, prominent industrialist Nazrul Islam Babul held public meetings in various areas including Lalbazar of the city on Saturday. At this time, he complained and said that the supporters of the ruling party candidate are attacking Japa leaders and workers in various places, posters are being torn. I want to fix it. Complaints of continuous violation of the code of conduct by the government party candidate were reported to the election commission office, but no solution was found. If there is no conspiracy then Langal's victory in June 21 election is assured.

Sources from the returning officer's office said that the total number of general wards in the city of Sylhet with an area of 79.50 square kilometers is 42. And a total of 56 councilor posts including 14 more in reserved seats will be voted on. Besides, seven people are competing for the post of mayor, including four party members.
