TCB abruptly suspends the sale of oil at Tk 110

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, May 16: The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) was scheduled to start selling soybean oil and other products at Tk 110 per liter in the open market from today (Monday, May 16). But that activity was suspended on Sunday (May 15) evening.

A statement from the company said that even in the capital, products will now be sold only on family cards. Products will no longer be sold by truck in the open markets. The sale of products in the open market has been suspended from Monday (May 16) due to the implementation of family card activities.

According to the TCB statement, the government has decided to sell TCB products (edible oil, lentil pulses, sugar) through family cards in order to manage the sales activities in an orderly manner and reach the real beneficiaries at affordable prices. Family card preparation and distribution activities are underway in Dhaka (North and South) and Barisal City Corporation. TCB will continue to sell products through this card only after the completion of Family Card distribution activities. For that reason, in order to implement that decision, the general open market selling activities have been suspended for a short period (from 16 to 30) of this month.

TCB said that in June, TCB will sell daily necessities to one crore low-income families through family cards at subsidized rates.

So far, the government marketing company has been selling these products at affordable and subsidized prices among low-income families across the country to keep the prices of daily necessities affordable in the open market in the capital, which were sold by truck in different parts of the capital. Due to the introduction of family card, this opportunity is no longer available.
