Technocrat minister-state ministers submit resignations
Dhaka, Nov 20: As the election schedule has been announced, the technocrat (non-Member of Parliament) Ministers and State Ministers have submitted their resignations like last time. According to related sources, two ministers and one state minister submitted their resignations to the cabinet department on Sunday (November 19).
The schedule of the 12th National Parliament election was announced on November 15. Voting will be held on January 7. The current cabinet includes Science and Technology Minister Yafes Osman, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar and State Planning Minister Shamsul Alam as technocrat ministers.
The current cabinet has 47 members apart from the Prime Minister. Among them 25 ministers, 19 state ministers and three deputy ministers. If the resignations of the three are accepted, the number of members in the cabinet will be 43. Among them, 23 ministers, 18 state ministers and three deputy ministers.
Yafes Osman said, "This time will be like last time." He declined to say more. When asked when the appointment letter will be given, he said, "Find out from the cabinet department." On the other hand, Mustafa Jabbar said, "What we did last time, it will be the same this time as well. You can find out the rest from the cabinet department."
It is also known from the Cabinet Department that the advisers of the Prime Minister who are not members of Parliament have also submitted their resignations. The 11th National Assembly election was held on December 30, 2018. Earlier, the election schedule was announced on November 8 of that year.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered the resignation of technocrat ministers in the cabinet meeting on November 6, 2018 to form the government during the election period. The four ministers submitted their resignations to the cabinet department between afternoon and evening on the same day. Their resignations were accepted a month later, just before the official campaign for the elections began.
Before this, the 10th National Parliament election was held on January 5, 2014. On November 21, 2013, a 29-member election cabinet was formed, including the Prime Minister. Among them 21 ministers, seven state ministers. 16 ministers and 14 state ministers of the grand coalition government were dropped from that cabinet. Two more advisers to the Prime Minister were appointed.
Ministers and state ministers submitted undated resignation letters to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina before the cabinet meeting on November 11, 2013 to form the government during the election. The resignations accepted by the President were not included in the government during the election. In that cabinet, 6 ministers from Awami League, Jatiya Party and Jasad and two were appointed as state ministers.
