Teen's bravery saves train from accident in Jaipurhat

Dhaka, December 28: Sajid Hossain, a teenager in Khasbaguri area of Panchbibi upazila of Jaipurhat district, saved the lives of hundreds of passengers of the Panchagarh-bound Dhaka-bound intercity express train from the accident. The incident took place around 1 pm on Sunday.

Sajid Hossain, 15, son of Anwar Hossain and Sahida Begum of Khasbaguri village in Panchbibi upazila of the district, is a class 10 student of a non-govermental school in Panchbibi upazila.

Rezaul Karim of the same village, Sajid's classmate Sajib, Mozammel Hoque and other residents said that Sajid's mother Sahida Begum was crossing the railway line near her house on Sunday afternoon. At that time, he saw a crack in the railway line and immediately tied a red vest to a stick and asked his son Sajid to fly it. Later, Sajid showed his vest and stopped the Dhaka-bound intercity express train. This saved the lives of hundreds of passengers on the train. The locals congratulated Sajid for this work.

Sajid said that according to his mother's words, he stood on the railway line with Lalgenji to save the lives of the train passengers. After the train stopped, the driver and passengers praised Sajid.

Railway Repair Officer (Key-Man) Raihan Hossain said that after stopping the Sajid train, the railway officials came to the spot and fixed the cracks in the railway line. After about an hour, the train movement became normal.

Joypurhat Railway Station Master Habibur Rahman said the train and passengers were saved from a fatal accident due to stopping the Sajid train at Lalgenji. He mentioned that the railway department has thanked Kishore Sajid.
