Dhaka, December 29: Teesta is an important issue. The Teesta issue will come up in any discussion with India. The government has many grand plans for rivers, water, and soil. The government has already prepared several drafts to implement the Teesta Master Plan. The present government is making all efforts to implement this master plan. Planning Minister MA Mannan said these while addressing as the chief guest at the silver jubilee celebration of Mostafihat Girls High School in Lalmonirhat on Wednesday (December 28).

Before this, during the visit of the Teesta project area on October 9, the recently appointed ambassador of China, Li Jiming, said that every year, thousands of people along the Teesta banks lose their houses and arable land to the river due to floods. If the Teesta master plan is implemented, the people of Teesta will see the light.

After visiting the Teesta barrage and command area, the ambassador informed the reporters. He said that the feasibility of the barrage area is being checked for the implementation of the project and there is a possibility that the work will start soon with the efforts of the governments of the two countries. If the project is implemented, there will be changes in all aspects of this area. It will contribute to every aspect of human life including the development of people's quality of life, economy, nature, and environment communication system.

Li Jiming said, "We are paying attention to what the people of this area think first. It is also being seen how much demand people have."

As part of the master plan around the Teesta, it is being considered to build planned satellite cities on the two banks of the Teesta along the lines of Suqian City in East China's Jiangsu Province. River dredging and management, erosion prevention system, modern agricultural irrigation system, fish farming project, and tourism center will be established. It is expected to provide employment to 7 to 1 million people. As a result, the northern districts of Lalmonirhat, Rangpur, Nilphamari, Gaibandha, and Kurigram will be financially prosperous.
