Dhaka, July 14: Due to the upstream hill slope and few days of continuous rain, Teesta water is flowing 35 cm above the danger line. As a result, water has risen in many homesteads in the low-lying areas along the banks of the Teesta in Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat, the locals said. Due to the increase in the river water, the residents of the river bank are spending their days in fear of flood and erosion.

At 6 pm on Thursday, Dalia Point of Teesta Barrage recorded a height of 52 meters 50 cm. That is, water is flowing over 35 cm of the danger line (the danger line is 52 meters 15 centimeters). Before this, water flowed over 19 cm above the flood line at 6 am and 9 am. At 12 noon, 6 cm fell to 13 cm above and at 3 pm 17 cm above the danger line.

Locals said that due to the increase in water flow, water has risen in the lower areas along the river banks of Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat and many homesteads in Char. Apart from this, the farmers are worried about crop loss due to inundation of the crop fields. Due to the sudden rise in water, the locals are in trouble with food for cattle and birds.

Dimla Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Belayet Hossain said, "We have warned the locals with the local public representatives and village police. We are constantly on alert to deal with floods. Dalia Water Development Board Executive Engineer Asfauddaula said, trying to control the water by opening the 44 gates of the barrage. With the help of the local administration, we have made people aware. If there is any problem anywhere, the Water Development Board is ready to deal with it."
