Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 10 February 2024: The tension of the ongoing conflict inside Myanmar has shifted from the sleepy Tumbru of Bandarban to Teknaf. From 6pm on Thursday 8th February to 5am on Friday 9th February, the area near the border was rocked by the sound of gunfire and mortar shell explosions.

The distance between Huaikxyong Unchiprang area of Teknaf Upazila and Myanmar is only 2 km. Being so close, what is happening in Myanmar can be seen with the naked eye.

Locals of the Unchiprang border claim that the Arakan Army and other rebel groups are advancing towards the south by occupying the bases of the Myanmar border guards in the Dhenkibunya area. For this reason, the sounds of these explosions are coming from Shilkhali, Bolibazar and Quirkhali in Teknaf part of Myanmar.

Kamrul Islam, a local resident of Unchiprang, told Dhaka Post that from Thursday evening to 5 am today, I heard loud sounds of heavy weapons in the area near the border. The area is shaking with this sound. It looks like lightning. I have not heard such words even after birth.

Basat Karim, another resident, said, "I am a shrimp farmer. I have shrimp enclosures in Master's Para area in the Bangladesh part near the Myanmar border. What is happening in Myanmar can be seen with the naked eye. In the afternoon, people in black clothes are exchanging gunfire with Myanmar's Nasaka (BGP). . Some people have taken refuge on the island of Biler on our border. There is constant bombardment. The sound of bomb blasts is shaking the area."
