Dhaka, July 13: Additional Director General (Planning and Development) of the Department of Health Prof Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora has assured that Bangladesh will not have to face any major challenge with vaccination.

"We overcame the challenge of getting vaccinated. Already 45 lakh doses of vaccine have been received. We hope more vaccines will come in phases this week and later. We have started buying vaccines from various sources as well as getting vaccinated through the World Health Organization," she said while inspecting the mass vaccination drive at Mymensingh Medical College Center, organized by the City Corporation at 11am on Tuesday (July 13).

"At a time when covid infections are on the rise, vaccinating everyone is an important tool to prevent infection. We want as many people as possible to be vaccinated as soon as possible. We are working towards it," she added.

Although many people received the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, they did not receive the second dose, she said, adding that contacts had been made with various countries. The AstraZeneca vaccine is expected to arrive this month. Those who did not receive the second dose, will be given immediately after arrival.

"If we all follow proper hygiene and wear proper masks, it would be possible to control the infection to a great extent," she said, adding, "Covid can be controlled only if we protect ourselves."

"No matter how much we increase capacity, there will be no work if we cannot reduce the number of patients. In this case, the general public has to play an important role," she said.

Mymensingh City Corporation Mayor Md. Ikramul Haque Titu said, "Vaccination programs are underway at four points in the city. We have all the preparations. Everyone needs to get vaccinated to help themselves and others stay well."

Also present during the visit were Mymensingh Medical College Hospital Director Brigadier General Md Fazlul Kabir, Assistant Director (Administration) Dr Zakiul Islam, Corona Unit Spokesperson Dr Mohiuddin Khan Moon and others.
