Dhaka, March 4: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's application for time extension before sentence, waiver and relaxation of conditions is being examined on behalf of her family. The minister made the remarks while talking to reporters at his office in the Secretariat on Wednesday (March 3).

Khaleda Zia, convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case and the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case, has been suspended for six months in the second phase.

The moratorium is coming to an end on March 24. Meanwhile, Begum Zia's family has applied to the Home Ministry with several demands, including extending the moratorium.

In this regard, the Home Minister said, "The time (the period for suspending Begum Zia's sentence) is probably coming to an end. That is why they have asked for an extension by relaxing some more conditions to extend the time again. We are experimenting with what he wants, we are experimenting to make the next decision. '

Asked what they wanted, the minister said, "They have further relaxed the conditions in their letter, stating that they could not get treatment in Corona." They also asked whether his sentence could be commuted.

Asked what would happen next, the minister said, "We are saying we will send it to the law ministry for examination." The opinion from the law ministry will be taken in consultation with the appropriate people. '

Asked whether the letter had been sent to the law ministry, he said, "It only came yesterday, it will be sent."

Asked whether there was any point in taking Begum Zia abroad in the petition, the minister said, "It is always written in her letter. The reference is to go abroad, it is written like that but he is still in jail. His house is here now as a prison. '

Asked if there was any legal possibility of remission of the sentence, the Home Minister said, "We want to examine it." We are checking. I have said before that our Prime Minister is always making as much arrangements as possible. '
