Dhaka, March 9: The explosion occurred from the basement of the municipal building on North Road in Siddique Bazar of the capital due to Titus gas leakage. Gas is still bubbling out of the Titus gas line. Earlier, there was an explosion from a gas leakage in Moghbazar of the capital.

Major Moshiur Rahman, head of RAB's bomb disposal unit, briefed reporters about the progress of rescue operations after visiting the scene on Wednesday (March 8).

He said, "Only the street side room of the blasted building exploded. It was seen that the blast from the basement went up. Because of this, the basement and the roof of the first floor were damaged and the roof of the second floor was dome type. Some of the basements on the north side of the building were damaged. Cracks have appeared in the pillars. But the master management has not suffered much."

Major Rahman said, "RAB is working in coordination with Titas Gas Authority and Rajuk experts. Initially, we confirmed that the explosion of the building came from the basement. It is not a normal explosion. It is a powerful explosion. It may be due to gas leakage. But other I am working with these things in mind. Apart from this, there is very little risk of this happening from AC."

He said, "We have collected samples from here and sent them to the lab for testing. We are trying to come to a conclusion. We are also trying to find out whether there was an explosion from gas or something else."

Earlier on June 27, 2021, a terrible explosion occurred on the ground floor of a three-storey building in the wireless area of Mogbazar. Twelve people died in that incident. More than two hundred were injured. At least seven buildings in the vicinity were blown out by the explosion. The windows of three buses on the road were broken.
