Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 11 October 2023: 24 units of the fire service brought the fire under control after three hours of heavy fire at the Said Grand Center in Uttara Sector 7 of the capital. Notices were given several times as there was no fire fighting system in the building. But they did not pay attention.

In response to a question from reporters at the scene after controlling the fire on Wednesday morning, Director of Fire Service and Civil Defense Directorate (Operations and Maintenance) Lt. Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury said these things.

Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury said, "The building had a diagnostic center, buying house, various offices, computer UPS and various accessories shops. However, there was no fire fighting system. It was very little. Even after the fire, it did not work."

Lt. Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam said, "The fire spread to the 7th, 8th and 9th floors of the building. Among them, the 9th floor was the most damaged. There was a restaurant on this floor. However, it is not possible to say whether the fire started from the restaurant or not. But the fire started from the floor of the restaurant. The origin, that much is confirmed. After the fire, the cylinder exploded. After the investigation, we can say how the fire started."

He also said that the fire service team went and searched the building and there was no casualty. However, while controlling the fire, two fire service and civil defense personnel were injured. They are being treated at the hospital.

When asked why no action was taken against the building despite giving a notice, he said, "The fire service does not have the power to take action. We create awareness, give notice, do mobile court. But action will be taken by the authority."
