Dhaka, August 11: Regarding vaccination of children against coronavirus, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said that this vaccination for children has been specially developed. It is very safe. This vaccine is being administered in the United States. Drug Administration has approved. The vaccinations that have arrived should be given at intervals of two months. Vaccination will begin in full swing from August 25.

He said these things at the inauguration of the corona vaccination program for children aged 5 to 11 years at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center on Thursday (August 11).

The health minister said that two million primary school children should be vaccinated. We will need about 4 crore 40 lakh vaccines for these children. We have already received about 30 lakh vaccines. The rest of the vaccines have been confirmed by the US government to be given to us by Covax. Mentioning the low risk of children from corona, the minister said that children were already safe from coronavirus.

Corona has killed 29 thousand people in the country so far, of which 80 to 85 percent are above 50 years. The number of youth in this list is very low. And the news of death of anyone between 5 and 11 years has not been heard yet.

Zahid Maleque said that women are behind compared to men in the booster dose vaccination program, but men and women are almost equal in the first and second doses, but women are lagging behind in the booster dose. Many women do not take the booster dose even with the second dose.

He said, we have become the first in South Asia to conduct the vaccination program. The whole world is praising us. Many countries are still unable to vaccinate 10/15 percent of the population. But Bangladesh has brought people to safety by vaccination. The death rate has also come down to zero.

The event was also attended by Education Minister Dipu Moni; Anwar Hossain Howlader, Secretary of the Health Care Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare; Director General of Health Department Professor Dr. Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam; US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter D.
