There is no barrier to student politics at BUET

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 2 April 2024: The High Court has stayed the notification issued in 2019 banning student politics in Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). As a result, there is no obstacle to student politics in BUET, said the petitioner's lawyer.

At the same time, the court issued a ruling seeking to know why the notification issued banning student politics in BUET should not be declared invalid and illegal.

On Monday, a bench comprising Justice Md Khasruzzaman and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar Kajol of the High Court gave this order. Senior lawyer Shah Manjurul Haque was present in the court on behalf of the writ. Barrister Harunur Rashid was with him. Earlier, BUET student and Chhatra League leader Imtiaz Rabbi filed a writ in the relevant branch of the High Court on Monday (April 1). In the writ, the education secretary, the VC of BUET have been made defendants.

On March 27, around 1:00 PM, a group of leaders and activists of BCL entered the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) campus under the leadership of top leaders of BCL. BUET students protested the next day on Friday. Meanwhile, the students presented 6-point demands, including banning student politics on the campus.
