There is no place for miscreants in Awami League: Hasan Mahmud
Dhaka, May 2: Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud said there is no place for miscreants in the Awami League. He termed the attack on Jitendra Guha, a renegade leader of the Awami League, as disgusting and said that there was no place in the Awami League for the miscreants who were harassing the tested leaders of the party by discrediting the party.
The information minister was responding to a question from reporters when he visited Patia Upazila Awami League leader Jitendra Guha, who was critically injured in the attack. At this time he sought the treatment of the injured Jitendra Guha.
The minister said, Jitendra Guha is a tried and tested leader of our team. He was the president of Union Awami League. Starting from Chhatra League, it has come to today's stage through a long process. The attack on him is not only reprehensible, it is heinous. Those who attacked will be expelled from the party.
He said the Jasim chairman of Patiyar's Haidgaon union, who was attacked, had earlier been expelled from the party for being a rebel candidate in the UP elections. He has already been arrested. I hope other accused will be arrested soon.
The Minister of Information and Broadcasting strongly condemned the incident and said, "All the leaders and activists of our party are with Jiten Guha. Evil people like those who attacked have no place in our group. There is no place in our party for such miscreants, who try to take advantage of various opportunities by tarnishing the name of the party, harassing the tried and tested leaders."
Dr. Hassan said that there must be fair trial and exemplary punishment for this incident. Chairman BM Jasim has already been fired. The Awami League has already decided to expel him for life.
