Dhaka, December 1: Those not wearing mask may face jail time, said Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam at a briefing of the cabinet meeting at the secretariat on Monday (November 30).

Earlier, a virtual cabinet meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The Cabinet Secretary said, "As we have said before, from this week (against those who are not wearing masks) we will go for strong action."

"I think it's positive outside Dhaka; DCs say people in the district headquarters are being fairly careful. Dhaka city is not yet fully cared for; However, there is a message that (if you don't wear a mask) you will be fined, you will have to pay a fine of Tk 500. I said fine from now on, otherwise we will give more instructions. I have asked for a maximum fine."

"If you still don't wear a mask, you have to go to jail," he said.

"We can't take risks, we have to do as much as possible. We will watch for another seven to 10 days, then give instructions - give more severe punishment. Fine punishment will be given as much as possible."
