Dhaka, July 8: Punitive action will be taken against those involved in errors and irregularities in the construction of free houses for the homeless on the occasion of Mujib Year, no exemption will be given. An inquiry committee has already been formed under the direction of the Prime Minister and disciplinary action is being taken against the accused.

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader made the remarks at a regular briefing at his official residence on Thursday (July 8).

He said a free house building program for the homeless is being implemented under the direction and plan of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's birth centenary 'Mujib Year'. As part of the ongoing struggle to establish the golden Bengal of the Father of the Nation's dream of a prosperous Bangladesh, the Prime Minister has taken timely steps to improve the living standards of the economically backward people of the society. Which is derived from the development policy of Bangabandhu daughter Sheikh Hasina and Awami League.

Noting that these initiatives of the Prime Minister in ensuring sustainable development are considered as a landmark step in history and have been widely appreciated around the world, the Minister said the government has already gifted houses to around 1,20,000 homeless people to ensure housing for all. Of these, construction defects in 24 sites have been reported in the media, accounting for 0.25 per cent of the projects implemented. These defective installations have been identified and will be repaired and rebuilt at government expense.

Obaidul Quader said, these houses have been built on government khas land. In many cases, the installations have been damaged due to being in relatively low lying areas with khas land. Even then, even if there is a small error in the account book of a large workforce, those who are responsible for this error and are involved in negligence and irregularities in their responsibilities will be punished and no exemption will be given.

The Awami League general secretary said the program would continue till housing is ensured for all the homeless people as announced by the Prime Minister, but this great work of the government is being lauded at home and abroad and through the implementation of the project a large section of the country is moving towards economic progress. Just then, a group with vested interest resorted to intentional malpractice in the name of criticizing the issue.
