Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 5 October 2023: Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen said that sanctions will be given to those who impose sanctions on Bangladesh. He said this in response to reporters' questions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after his visit to the United States and the United Kingdom on Wednesday afternoon.

In a speech given in New York during his stay in the United States, the Prime Minister said that the people of Bangladesh will also give sanctions if there is a conspiracy to disrupt the elections from foreign countries. In response to the question whether the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is preparing to give sanctions or not, the minister said, of course we will also give sanctions. We will take if necessary. Sanctions will be given.

When asked about who will be given the sanctions and what they will be given, Momen said that we can give sanctions on those who will give sanctions on us. Can't? Of course I can. I will take it if necessary. What is the hurry? Sanctions may be imposed in various cases. You will know them in time.

When asked whether the election was discussed during the Prime Minister's meeting with US President Joe Biden, he said, "There must have been a discussion about the election." We told America that only Awami League established democracy in this country. In this country, Sheikh Hasina has struggled to establish people's right to vote. Awami League has taught democracy in this country. But in between there were some governments like military, civilian and technocratic, then the democracy in our country was destroyed. Then there is a yes-no vote. 1 crore 23 lakh fake voters, then the Aziz Commission was formed. This destroys democracy. A party was elected by reverse election, where no one voted. The people of Bangladesh believe in democracy, so the government was forced to resign after one and a half months.

The foreign minister also said that since 2009, Awami League has established democracy in Bangladesh. Thousands of elections have been held in Bangladesh in 15 years. Fair elections have been held in most cases except a few of them. Mayoral elections were held in five cities a few days ago. There was a conflict-free election in a very peaceful environment. Fair, acceptable and free elections were held. We want free and fair elections without conflicts.
