Dhaka, September 16: Md. Shaheen, General Secretary of Benapole Truck-Lorry Workers Union in Jessore, said that soybean husk, jute and jute products and garments, soap, batteries and garments are being exported from Bangladesh due to land crisis in Petrapole port of India. Being exported to India. Every day 200-250 trucks carrying these products are coming to Benapole port to enter India. But due to not being able to go to Petrapole port, severe traffic jam is being created in Benapole port area.

Besides, there is no terminal for keeping trucks of export goods at Benapole port.

Mofizur Rahman Sajan, president of the Benapole C&F Agents Association, said that at present, a large number of products are being exported from Bangladesh to India every day. As a result, about 250 trucks carrying these goods are coming to Benapole port every day to enter India. But the Indian authorities are taking only 100 trucks every day. That is why so many trucks are stuck in Benapole. The result is increasing suffering. Now the amount of traffic has been congested, all areas including Benapole market, Bandar customs area are full of export vehicles. We have meetings with customs, BSF and traders on the Indian side. I am trying to resolve the issues urgently.

Benapole Port Deputy Director (Traffic) Mamun Kabir Tarafdar said exports of goods along with imported goods have doubled through Benapole Port along with India's Petrapol Port. At present, about 1,000 to 1,200 trucks are waiting at the port of Benapole to enter India. This is hampering the unloading of import and export goods in the port area.

He added that in order to make the export trade more dynamic, discussions were recently held with the authorities of the Indian port of Petrapole and they promised to take more than two hundred trucks of export goods every day from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm. We are working to send the exported vehicles to India quickly.
