Dhaka, June 25: Hundreds of thousands of people flocked to Kanthalbari Ghat in Shibchar Upazila from dawn to attend the inaugural rally of the much-dreamed Padma Bridge. In particular, the leaders and workers of the Awami League and its affiliates came to the rally site earlier to witness the inauguration of the bridge. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Padma Bridge at Mawa Point in the morning by unveiling the inaugural plaque.

After inaugurating the self-funded Padma Bridge, he joined the Awami League rally at 12 noon. The gathering started at 9.15 am with a recitation from the Holy Scriptures. Awami League presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak gave such a welcome speech. Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap conducted the rally.

Numerous men and women from different parts of the country, especially from the 21 districts of the south and south-west, gathered at dawn at the Kathalbari Ghat on the banks of the Padma.

They wore traditional Punjabi, sari, t-shirt. These garments were the greeting message of the inauguration of the Padma Bridge. They also show off their happiness by wearing colorful ribbons with hats and hats and gather at the rally irrespective of men and women. They also carry banner festoons of different colors.

Abdul Halim Talukder, a member of Joynagar Union in Jajira Upazila of Shariatpur, said, "We came to the Jamaddar stand in Shibchar last night to join today's rally."

About three thousand leaders and activists of Joynagar Union came to join the rally. Lavlu Sheikh of Mollarhat upazila in Bagerhat said they left at 10:30 pm last night and reached the rally site at 6:00 am today. He added that about 30,000 people have come from this upazila.

The venue is decorated with various boats, big and small. The stage was set up in front of a symbolic Padma bridge built temporarily on 10 spans and 11 pillars. The temporary bridge is 200 feet long and eight feet wide. Strict security measures are taken to avoid any kind of untoward incident. Six watchtowers and 150 CCTV cameras were installed in the assembly grounds.

The whole of Madaripur district, including Shariatpur, was abuzz with the inauguration of the dream Padma Bridge. There was a festive mood all around. Roads were decorated with colorful banners.
