Three die after consuming poisonous liquor in Kushtia

Dhaka, October 28: Three people died after drinking poisonous liquor in Kushtia. They died after being taken to hospital in the early hours of Wednesday (October 28).

The deceased have been identified as Anik Biswas, 21, of Barailchara village in Sadar upazila, Ripon Kumar Ghosh, 32, of Kalibari Bazar in Khoksa upazila and Nitai Biswas, 35, of Kantadah village in Mirpur upazila.

Locals said Nitai Biswas was admitted to Kushtia General Hospital around 12am on Wednesday. Anik Biswas was admitted to the hospital at around 4 am on Wednesday.

Ripon Kumar Ghosh was brought to the hospital from Khoksa upazila around 5.45 am. All three died at 6 am while undergoing treatment.

Tapas Kumar Sarkar, the hospital's resident medical officer (RMO), said it was initially thought they had died of poisoning. They will be autopsied around 12 noon. Then the cause of death can be confirmed.

Superintendent of Police SM Tanvir Arafat said police had been sent to the spot in three upazilas. Legal action is being taken.
