Dhaka, October 7: Mentally exhausted with the coronavirus pandemic bringing an end to normal lives, three college students had planned to escape to Japan. However, they were rescued by RAB before fleeing Bangladesh using naval route.

According to the plan, on September 30, they left home with cash, gold ornaments and their own certificates. So that no one would suspect, the students came out with college dresses and bags. The three students have been identified as Sneha Akhter (16), Kazi Dilkhush Jannat Nisha (15) and Kaniz Fatema (16).

RAB rescued them after they went missing for about a week. Later, RAB officials got this information during their interrogation.

On Wednesday, RAB-4 Commander (CO) Additional DIG Md Mozammel Haque said they were confined at home as the educational institution was closed for a year and a half due to coronavirus situation. During this time they became addicted to foreign culture. They are especially attracted to Japanese culture. In the meantime, while visiting Diabari in the capital, they met a woman named Hafsa Chowdhury. The three girlfriends planned to go to Japan by boat from Cox's Bazar with Hafsa.

RAB-4 captain Mozammel Haque further said that on the advice of Hafsa, they deleated their e-mails, Facebook and dumped their used mobile phones in Gabtali as per the plan. One of the reasons for this is that the law enforcement agencies would not be able to identify their location. Then they went to Comilla Mainamati by bus. Along the way, they cut their hair and wore western costumes to conceal their identities. When they reached Mainamati Cantonment area of Comilla, they bought sneakers, clothes and a mobile phone. Even if they bought mobile handsets, they used WiFi and did not buy SIM cards.
