Dhaka, January 24: At least three people were killed when a train collided head-on with a train from Chapainawabganj to Rajshahi. They were killed on the spot when the train derailed at around 8:40 am on Monday (January 24). The incident took place at Alinagar-Hajir intersection in Chapainawabganj municipal area. Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mozaffar Hossain confirmed the deaths.

The deceased were identified as Meher Ali, 50, son of late Reich Uddin of Alinagar area of Chapainawabganj municipality, Fulchan Ali son of late Garibullah of Alinagar-Bhutpukur area and Naimul Islam son of Amanullah of Jhilim of Sadar upazila. The dead were all fish traders. They were returning after selling fish.

It is learned that the Rajshahi Mail train left Chapainawabganj station for Rajshahi at the scheduled time. The train collided with Bhatvati while trying to cross the road at Alinagar-Hajir junction a few hundred meters away from the station. At that time, all the three people in the vat got cut by the train and died on the spot.

Saidur Rahman, a local resident, told Dhaka Post that the vehicles crossed without any hindrance as there was no level crossing. As the Rajshahi Mail train crossed the Hajir junction, they did not know about the arrival of the train due to the extra noise of Bhatvati. As a result, the collision took place when the train and the vatavati came on the line at the same time.

In the Alinagar area, Shishir Ahmed said, they were cut off after pushing the boat too far in the line. The bodies of the three were cut and torn apart in the train. They were all returning home after selling fish.

Md. Obaidullah, station master of Chapainawabganj railway station, told Dhaka Post that the train left the station on time. The accident happened just minutes after leaving. The train was standing there for a long time as the body was lying under the train. When the body was later removed, the train left for Rajshahi at around 9:17 am.
