Three killed in mini truck-bus collision in Chakaria

Dhaka, February 7: At least three people were killed when a mini truck collided with a bus while overtaking a pickup truck at Chakaria on the Cox's Bazar-Chittagong highway. At least 30 others were injured. The accident took place on the Cox's Bazar-Chittagong highway in Medhakchhapia area of Khutakhali in Chakaria upazila around 11:30 pm on Sunday (February 6). Safayet Hossain, in-charge (inspector) of Malumghat Highway police outpost confirmed the incident.

The deceased have been identified as Bazlu Haque, 40, driver of Shyamoli bus in Madaripur's Kalkini upazila, helper Alal, 35, of Dhamrai in Dhaka and Khaled, 28, driver of mini truck Maheshkhali.

The injured have been rescued and sent to different hospitals. However, Malumghat Highway Police could not immediately reveal the names of the injured.

Safayet Hossain, in-charge (inspector) of Malumghat Highway Police Outpost, said a Dhaka-bound Shyamoli Paribahan bus was overtaking a pickup from Cox's Bazar in Medhakchhpia area of ​​Khutakhali upazila around 11:30 pm on Sunday. At that time there was a head-on collision with a mini truck heading towards Cox's Bazar. Three people died on the spot.

Upon receiving the news, the police and fire service rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operations. About 30 passengers of the bus were injured in the incident. They have been sent to various hospitals including local clinics. The bus-truck involved in the accident is in police custody.
