Three more cases in Sonargaon resort vandalism, Mamunul Haque made main accused in one

Dhaka, April 10: Three more cases have been registered in connection with the vandalism of various establishments including the Awami League office after the blockade of Hefazat-e-Islam's central joint secretary general Mamunul Haque at the Royal Resort in Narayanganj's Sonargaon upazila. Mamunul Haque has been made the main accused in a case. Two local Juba League leaders have filed two cases in this regard. The other case was filed by the father of former BCL vice-president of the district Sohag Rony.

Sonargaon Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Hafizur Rahman said Nasir Uddin, Publicity Secretary of Upazila Juba League, has filed a case against him for vandalizing and setting fire to the Upazila Awami League office. Mamunul Haque was shown as the main accused and the names of 111 leaders and activists of the local Hefazat and BNP were mentioned and 300 unidentified people were made the accused in the case.

Meanwhile, Rafiqul Islam, president of Upazila Juba League, has filed another case against him for vandalizing his business establishment and house. Hefazat-e-Islam and BNP mentioned the names of 119 people and 250 unidentified people were accused in the case.

The other case was filed by Shah Jamal Tota, father of former Narayanganj district BCL vice-president Sohag Rony. In this case, 250 unidentified people have been accused by mentioning the names of seven people of BNP and Hefazat-e-Islam.

Meanwhile, the district detective police (DB) raided various places on Friday and arrested four Hefazat activists. They are Khaled Saifullah (34), Kazi Samir (32), Ahidul Islam (36) and Abdul Awal (39). They have been sent to jail for seven days.

Earlier on Thursday afternoon, seven Hefazat activists arrested from Shantinagar Darun Najat Nurani Madrasa in Pirojpur Union were sent to jail on Thursday evening seeking a seven-day remand.

The first three cases were filed on April 3 in connection with vandalism and attacks on police in protest of the blockade of Hefazat-e-Islam's central joint secretary general Mamunul Haque.

In one of the cases, Mamunul Haque was made the main accused. Last Tuesday night, the police filed another case against two plaintiffs and one injured journalist.
