Own Correspondent, Dhaka, May 3: Today is the holy Eid-ul-Fitr. After 30 days of fasting, the Muslim community is celebrating Eid today.

The moon of the holy month of Shawwal of 1443 AH was not seen anywhere in the country on Sunday. As a result, the holy Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated across the country on Tuesday. The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee in the eastern courtyard of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Sunday evening.

Today, Muslims across the country are celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr, their biggest religious festival, with due religious fervor and great enthusiasm, joy and excitement.

Devout Muslims observed a full month of fasting in the holy month of Ramadan and participated in Eid prayers in congregation today. Although the Eid Jamaat was not held at the National Eidgah adjacent to the High Court for the last two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the main Eid Jamaat was held here at 8:30 am this year. Eid Jamaat is also being held at Sholakia Maidan, a hundred-year-old historical site. Separate prayers are also arranged for women at the Eidgah.

A three-day public holiday has started from Friday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. The national flag is being hoisted at government, semi-government buildings, autonomous institutions, private buildings and all installations of the armed forces and banners emblazoned with the national flag and 'Eid Mubarak' are being displayed at important traffic islands and light posts in the metropolis. On the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, important installations including government buildings were illuminated.

In addition, Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private media have published special issues in special programmes and newspapers with due importance.

On the occasion of Eid celebration, arrangements have been made to serve quality food in all hospitals, prisons, government children's home, old age home, small home, socially handicapped center, shelter center, safe home, vagrant welfare center, distressed welfare and drug addiction treatment center.

On the day of Eid, all the children's parks under Dhaka South City Corporation and North City Corporation have been provided entry and entertainment without tickets for the disadvantaged children. Apart from this, arrangements have been made to enter and display the attractions like Binatiket Museum, Ahsan Manzil, Lalbagh Fort etc. Besides, a children's Eid reunion programme has been organized at Bangladesh Shishu Academy.
