Own correspondent, Dhaka, January 9, 2024: Tomorrow, January 10, is the historic homecoming day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of independent Bangladesh, returned home on January 10, 1972, after achieving Bengali victory through the bloody liberation war against the Pakistani invaders. Tomorrow, Wednesday, January 10 is the historic day. Bangladesh became independent on March 26, 1971 after a long struggle.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman led the freedom and independence movement to free the Bengali nation from the hands of Pakistan's rule-exploitation and oppression. While leading this movement, he had to suffer imprisonment, oppression and torture for a large period of his life. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman became the undisputed leader of the nation by leading all the Bengali movements against the colonial rule of Pakistan and was given the title of Bangabandhu.

At the final stage of the movement and struggle, Bangabandhu in his historic speech of March 7, 1971 ordered the Bengali nation to be ready for the liberation war. Last night on March 25, the barbaric Pakistani army invaded the Bengali nation and started mass killing. Immediately after this incident, Bangabandhu announced the independence of Bangladesh from his Dhanmondi residence. After this, Bangabandhu was arrested by the Pakistani army.

Bengali liberation war started. The bloody war continued for 9 long months. At that time, Bangabandhu was imprisoned in a Pakistani prison and tortured. Pakistanis made various plans to kill Bangabandhu. Not only was he tortured in jail, he was also taken to the gallows. But the popularity of Bangabandhu both at home and abroad and his indomitable courage were ultimately accepted by Pakistan's ruling class and army.

The ruling Awami League has taken a detailed program to celebrate this day of Bangabandhu's homecoming with due dignity. On Wednesday morning at 7 am, tributes will be paid to Bangabandhu by placing flowers in Bangabandhu's portrait at Bangabandhu Bhavan in Dhanmondi of the capital. Discussion meeting will be held at Krishibid Institution Auditorium at Farmgate at 3 PM. Awami League President Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will preside over this meeting.
