Dhaka, 3 December 2023 : Additional Secretary of Election Commission (EC) Secretariat Ashok Kumar Debnath said that the matter of transfer of Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP) is not unusual.

He said this in response to a question from the journalists at the Agargaon election hall on Saturday afternoon.

In response to the question whether there has been any decision on the transfer of DC-SPs, Ashok Kumar said, "I am not aware of any decision so far. If there is a decision later, I can tell you. If the Election Commission sits and takes a decision, it can happen, it is not unusual."

Asked if there is any danger of chaos in the reshuffle, he said, "I don't think so."

"Irrespective of the upazila or district in which an employee performs his duty, he shall perform his duties properly," he said.

When asked whether the government wanted the reshuffle of OCs and UNOs, or you wanted it, he said, "It was wanted by the Election Commission. Our commissioners have visited various districts and regional levels of the country for the past one week, based on their findings, the Election Commission has taken this decision on November 30."

When asked why this decision, he said that this decision has been taken on the basis of the information given to the Election Commissioners from the field level. The Commission felt that this transfer was necessary. On the question of what kind of information, he said, not all information is openly shared. This decision is based on the information that the election commissioners have received from the field level, the information that has come from different candidates or different quarters (stages). They felt that a transfer was necessary.

An election commissioner said, if there is a large-scale reshuffle, there may be a chaos in the police-administration, why should the EC take the responsibility? He said another thing, 100 crore rupees will be spent - when asked about this, he said, why 100 crore rupees will be spent? Then you have to ask the commissioner. I can tell you what the commission decided.
