Dhaka, June 27: Canadian High Commissioner Benoit Préfontaine has said it is 'ok' to travel to Bangladesh just like in Turkey or Fance.

“We have deescalated many of the restrictions that have been placed right after that,” he was quoted as saying by bdnews24.

He was making the comment on the anniversary of the Dhaka cafe attack in 2016 which had killed 20 people.

The attack had taken place on July 1.

“Things are now back the way they were before,” the high commissioner told the news portal, “Especially outside of the city of Dhaka.”

“The only area we have more security measure is Dhaka because this is the place where the attack took place. Now we allow our staff to do regular things that we did not allow before,” he told bdnews24, adding that he personally feels “very comfortable” in Dhaka.

“But I am in charge of many people who are here, so it’s difficult to ignore some of the threat and some of the risks that still exist. But overall the trend is relaxing some of the restrictions we had to put previously," he said.
