Trawler capsizes in Bhola: 5 fishermen's bodies recovered

Dhaka, July 1: The bodies of five fishermen have been recovered from the trawler capsizing in Charfashan in Bhola district. But two more fishermen are still missing. The bodies were recovered from Sagar Mohana south of Meghna around 1 pm on Friday. Md. Ripon, a businessman of Samraj Machghat, said that the houses of all the dead and missing are in Charfashan. However, they could not be identified.

According to Samraj Fish Ghat sources, 13 fishermen went to fishing last June 25 avoiding the eyes of the administration due to the ban on fishing in the sea. The trawler sank on June 26 in rough seas. 13 prisoners went missing. On Thursday morning, two fishermen arrived at Manpura by boat. They were rescued and admitted to Charfashion Upazila Health Complex. Then on Friday morning, when four more fishermen came to Charfashan, they were also admitted to Charfashan Upazila Health Complex. Later on getting news from them, local fishermen and fishermen went to Bay of Bengal with trawlers. At one stage, the bodies of five prisoners were recovered around 1 pm.

Ripon Kumar Saha, OC (Investigation) of Charfashan police station, said that the police came to know about the recovery of the dead bodies of five jailers. However, the bodies have not yet been handed over to the police. The Coast Guard is being contacted in this regard.

He also said that the police have been sent to the upazila health complex to see the six fishermen under treatment. The police are trying to find out about the incident from them.
