Truck accident kills 2, injures 5 in Naogaon

Dhaka, November 20: Two betel traders were killed when a truck hit another truck parked at Manda in Naogaon. Five more people were injured in the incident. The injured were rescued and sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RAMEC).

The accident took place in front of Jonaki Hotel near Shaheed Kamruzzaman Textile College on the Naogaon-Rajshahi Regional Highway in the upazila around 5am on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Dinesh Chandra, 38, son of Sarat Chandra Barman of Angaria village in Bhurungmari upazila of Kurigram district and Dinesh Barman, 38, son of Deenbandhu.

According to local sources, a sand truck was parked in front of Jonaki Hotel near Shaheed Kamruzzaman Textile College on the Naogaon-Rajshahi Regional Highway in Manda Upazila. On the other hand, a truck carrying straw (Dhaka Metro T-24-1310) from Kurigram was going to buy betel leaves at Machmail Hat in Bagmara upazila of Rajshahi.

As it was foggy all around, the straw-laden truck pushed the parked truck from behind at around 5 am on Friday. The front part of the truck loaded with straw is twisted.

Betel traders Dinesh Chandra and Dinesh Barman, who were sitting next to the driver in front of the truck, died on the spot. The driver and four others on the truck were injured.

The truck driver Shipon Ali was rescued and sent to Manda Upazila Health Complex and the rest to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as their conditions were critical. A unit of the Manda Fire Service rescued the victims.
