Turkey earthquake: Two Bangladeshis were rescued from the rubble

Dhaka, February 8: About 40 hours after the earthquake in Turkey, Bangladeshi student Golam Syed Rinku was rescued from the rubble. He was rescued at nine o'clock Bangladesh time on Tuesday. However, sources from the Bangladesh Embassy in Ankara, Turkey said that Rinku's physical condition is serious. Earlier on Monday, another Bangladeshi student was rescued with injuries.

An official of the Bangladesh Embassy said that Golam Syed Rinku is a student of a university in the southern part of Turkey. A few years ago, he went to Turkey for higher education.

His mobile phone was switched off after the earthquake early Monday morning. None of his acquaintances could find him. Later the family of Golam Syed Ringkur contacted the Bangladesh Embassy. Father Golam Rabbani informed the embassy about his son's disappearance.

Former assistant professor of Jagannath University, Nazmus Saqib, is doing PhD research at a university in the country's capital, Ankara, funded by the Turkish government. Nazmus Saqib said at 9:30 pm on Tuesday, Golam Syed Rinku is a student of Kahramanmaraş Sutcu Imam University in Turkey. He was rescued with serious injuries about 40 hours after the earthquake. He was admitted to a local hospital.

Earlier, another Bangladeshi student of the same university, Noore Alam, was rescued on Monday. His village home is in Chandpur. Nazmus Shakib also said that there was no information about any missing Bangladeshis.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Embassy in Ankara, Turkey and the Bangladesh Consulate General Office in Istanbul have launched hotlines after the earthquake struck. Urgent contact is requested on this hotline. The Embassy of Bangladesh in Ankara, Turkey has asked expatriates in the earthquake-affected areas to contact these two hotlines - +90 546 995 0647 and +90 538 910 9635.
