Turkey shows interest in building hospital in south Dhaka

Dhaka, June 4: Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Mustafa Osman Turan met with Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh at Nagar Bhaban on Thursday (June 3rd) at noon and expressed interest in setting up a modern hospital in Dakshin City Corporation area as part of mutual cooperation. The DSCC Mayor thanked the ambassador and assured him of allocating necessary land for setting up a hospital in the newly attached area of ​​the corporation, especially in Kamrangirchar.

During the meeting, the Turkish Ambassador told the DSCC Mayor, "Currently, the trade volume between Bangladesh and Turkey is USD 1 billion and both countries are working to increase it to USD 2 billion by next year. Turkey is interested in investing in the Southern City Corporation area."

In response, Sheikh Taposh said, "The corporation has plans to build a 50-storey international standard conference center with modern facilities in an aesthetically pleasing environment on the banks of the river Buriganga in the newly attached Kamrangirchar area and a Central Business District (CBD). Turkey can invest there. In addition, 30 compactors have been procured as part of modernization of waste management activities. Open tenders have already been called. Turkey can also participate there."

During the meeting, the DSCC Mayor and the Turkish Ambassador expressed their determination to work together on various issues, including enhancing mutual cooperation and cultural exchange in preserving the heritage of Dhaka and establishing a DSCC ‘Sister City Relationship’ with any significant city in Turkey.

The Turkish ambassador thanked the mayor for inviting him and his colleagues to visit the traditional sites in the southern city at the beginning of winter.
