Dhaka, April 21: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two active members of the banned militant group Ansar al-Islam. On Monday (April 19) night, an expedition team of RAB-4 conducted a raid in Pirerbagh area under Mirpur Model Police Station and arrested them.

The arrested are Md. Sajjad Hossain alias Apu (22) and Md. Tarek Mia (19).

RAB-4 Assistant Director (Ops) Assistant Superintendent of Police Ziaur Rahman Chowdhury said on Tuesday (April 20th) that a member of Ansar al-Islam was arrested on March 30th. Based on the information given by him during interrogation, they were arrested in a raid in Pirerbagh area of ​​Mirpur on Monday night. During preliminary interrogation, the detainees confessed to being members of the banned organization Ansar al-Islam. Various pieces of evidence, including five extremist books by Ansar al-Islam, were seized from them.

Arrested Sajjad Hossain said in the preliminary interrogation that he has completed HSC from a private educational institution. As an active member of Ansar al-Islam, he has been in regular contact with other members as well as promoting various extremist writings and videos online and regularly collecting donations to motivate others.

Arrested Tariq Mia said he studied up to sixth grade and worked in a private company. He used to communicate with members of Ansar al-Islam using various anonymous IDs through social media, and he had been promoting various speeches and extremist videos to motivate them, including online-based action plans.
