Dhaka, November 27: Bogra district detectives have arrested two active members of the Dawah division of the banned militant group Ansar al-Islam.

Bogra Superintendent of Police Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan said in a press release on Friday (November 26th) that they were arrested from the south side of the Baghopara Uttarpara Jame Mosque in Bogra Sadar after 12pm on Thursday (November 26th).

The arrested are Iqbal Hossain Sarkar, 40, son of Hakim Sarkar alias Judge Miah of Sidlai Uttarpara village under Comilla's Brahmanpara police station and Zaidur Rahman alias Abdullah, 38, son of Shahidur Rahman of Bhaisarkut village under the same Debidwar police station.

Police said the two arrested militants came to Bogra to organize their organization's activities and raise money. When they went to the mosque for the night, the news reached the police. Then a team of detective police reached there and surrounded the mosque. They were arrested when they tried to flee after sensing the presence of police.

One shooter gun, two rounds of ammunition, 475 grams of bomb making explosives, a chopper, 25 jihadi books and 50 leaflets were recovered from them.

Bogra District Detective Police Inspector in-charge Abdur Razzak said the detainees had been running the Dawah Division of the militant group Ansar al-Islam for the past five years. They have already visited 14 districts of the country to raise funds for the organization. A case has been filed against them at Bogra Sadar Police Station.
