Two brothers electrocuted while hoisting national flag

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, August 15: Two brothers were electrocuted while hoisting the national flag at Itna in Haor Upazila of Kishoreganj.

The incident took place in front of the food warehouse of Upazila Sadar at around 8:30 am on Monday (August 15). The deceased were identified as Hridoy Karmakar (25), son of Nepal Karmakar, and his younger brother Bijoy Karmakar (17) of Nagarhati area of Itna Upazila Sadar.

According to local sources, Hridoy and Bijoy are two brothers. They have a shop called Hridoy Auto House in front of the food warehouse. On the occasion of National Mourning Day, Bijoy went to hoist the national flag on a steel pipe in that shop. At that time, Bijoy was electrocuted when the steel pipe got stuck in the electric wire on top of the shop.

Later, while trying to save Bijoy, Hridoy was also electrocuted. Later they were rescued and taken to the Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared them dead.

Resident Medical Officer of Itna Upazila Health Complex, Dr. Prasun Saha said, "They were brought to the hospital at 8:40 am. But they could not be saved."

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Itna Police Station Md. Kamrul Islam Mollah confirmed the matter to Dhaka Post.

He said that Bijoy was electrocuted by an electric wire while hoisting the national flag on an iron pipe in their shop in front of the food warehouse on Monday morning. Then Hridoy was also electrocuted while trying to save Bijoy. Locals rescued them from there and took them to Itna Upazila Health Complex, where the doctors on duty declared them dead.
